I hope everyone had a good week. We’ve got colds here at my home. I’d hoped we were over that for the year, but oh well…
Blackberry winter has arrived. The temps get down into the low 40’s. That’s not too awful, but we got spoiled real quick to sitting outside enjoying the 70’s and the 80’s tempperatures. It’s annoying that we need the heat on again.
My Basil isn’t doing well, most of it got bit back from the cold. I usually don’t have a problem during Blackberry with my porch garden. I guess where my basil was sitting there must’ve been an extra cold spot or something. Bummer dude!
The Baby Bunny living under our porch Something keeps chopping our Gerber Daisies to pieces. I’m going to surf around and see if I can find a deterrent. I don’t want to hurt whatever’s doing it, but I do want it to stop.
I started a new crochet blanket project with my shades of purple yarn. I didn’t get very far on it before I got sick. So, I’ve put it away until I’m well again.
And so it goes for me at the moment.
Time to go back to bed and wait for the cold to pass.

The garden looks good and maybe the cold will soon go away. My allergies are acting up but that’s life!

I’ve never heard the phrase “blackberry winter” before. Is it the polar opposite of “Indian summer”?

I’ve heard of Indian Summer, I wasn’t sure what it was, so I looked it up. I think our Blackberry winter this year is a few degrees of an Indian Summer polar opposite. Blackberry winter is a cold snap during this time of year when the blackberries are blooming.

Sorry you aren’t feeling well, E.C.; hope that cold is short-lived! I use Liquid Fence on everything to keep the deer and rabbits away. (Of course, I don’t grow any veggies, so I’m not sure about using it on any food plants.) Good luck!

At this moment, I’m feeling better and trying to make the most of it. But who knows how long that will last. This yucky cold stuff comes in waves.
Liquid Fence sounds like a handy product. We may have to get some of it for our new flower beds. We can’t keep the bunnies and chipmunks out of them. I really appreciate you sharing about the Liquid fence.
The cold snap will hopefully be over this week. Keep your fingers crossed. 🙂

I planted some basil and lettuce in hanging pots, and the lettuce is extremely happy. The basil, less so. It was 36 this morning…really cold for us here in May. Hope you’re feeling better soon. Our allergies are hitting a stride and everything is covered in yellow/green pollen.

Allergies are such a bummer. I hope you all get feeling better. That pollen makes such an icky mess too. I hope your cold snap leaves soon.
Basil doesn’t fair well in cool weather. I’ve given up on mine. Lettuce and leafy stuff seems to do better. Hopefully you’ll get several fresh salads out of yours.
