The other day I was trying to take photos of a bird through our bathroom window. I happened to notice movement in our garden, but it’s too far away to make out what it was. I feared it was a ground hog. I zoomed in and started taking photos of what I thought was a baby ground hog. The photos were blurry but still I kept trying. Then the critter started to come further out in the yard and I saw it was a squirrel. I didn’t recognize the species though. After it disappeared into the woods, I looked it up on the internet and discovered that it’s a Fox Squirrel. I was so excited. That’s so neat. I didn’t realize we had them around here.
I wanted to share my fox squirrel with you all, so I took the best of the photos of it and tinkered with them in Photoscape. I think they turned out well enough for you to see what a charming critter it is. 🙂

No wonder you thought it was a groundhog. I did too at first. I love taking pictures like that and then looking at them later and figuring out what it was.

Wow! We don’t have those around here — just the regular ol’ gray squirrels, who delight in digging up my plants….not eating them, just digging them up out of the soil….silly characters!

It was a fun surprise for me to discover this one. Our yard gets visited by several gray squirrels but this was my first sighting of a fox squirrel. We’re having the same prankish behavior as you with a young bunny and chipmunks. They’re really doing a number on our flower bed. I agree they truly are silly characters. lol 🙂

There’s a red squirrel in my yard who keeps coming back to hunt for pecans he buried last fall. The dogs chase him up the trees, but he doesn’t seem to let it keep him from coming back. As long as he doesn’t bother the flower bulbs, he’s welcome!

It’s so funny how the squirrels bury their food in our yards and then expect it to be there when they come back. I guess that how forest gets started. Pretty neat work for little fellers. 🙂
It sound s like your squirrel is a very determined little guy. I hope the dogs can keep him from your flower bulbs.
We’re having troubles with a bunny and chipmunks chopping down our flowers. I know it’s not cut worms because the leaves are cut off and scatter around. They’re such fun pranksters to watch. 🙂

I was amazed at how red our visitor’s underside was. I think that’s why I wasn’t sure if it was a squirrel… well that and it’s size. It was a might bigger than a gray. 🙂
