Old Timey Apple Pie

applepie-1My husband has been reminicing about the homemade apple pies that I used to make. He talked enough to get me wanting an apple pie. I bought a bag of apples and got out my ‘Old Timey Apple Pie’ Recipe. I was particurilarly excited about making a pie because I finally figured out how to make the lattice pie crust and wanted to try it out. It wasn’t as hard to do as I once thought. I used to make the solid pie crust top.

We enjoyed the pie… However, if I ever make it again, I will have to adjust the recipe because it was way too sweet. That’s the thing about the old timey recipes, some are sugar-heavy, this recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups.

All-in-all, it was a pretty decent pie. We enjoyed it over the course of a few days. I enjoyed making the pie and plan to make another one someday with adjustments to the recipe, or maybe another recipe all together.

      I don’t think I ever had a ‘shoo fly pie’. I had to look it up. It looks very deliciously sweet.
      I agree, there’s something about a homemade pie that makes it appetizing even if it’s not perfect. For me if the pie looks halfway decent I feel I’ve won half the battle right there. lol 🙂

  4. My husband used to talk about his mom’s apple pie, and no matter how I made my pie, it was never quite as good as his mom’s. His mom died before I met my husband, so I could never ask her what the secret was. Fortunately, our son-in-law’s mother makes that perfect “mom” pie, and the son-in-law has learned his mom’s secrets!

      What a bittersweet situation. It’s a shame you can’t find out what her recipe was. The perfect pie sounds divine. I bet your husband appreciates your efforts to try and make him a Mom pie. I hope your son-in-law shared the secret with you. Making the special pie would be a tasty accomplishment. 🙂
