I’ve always wanted to try to make a simple crochet cardigan to wear around the house. Over the years I’ve looked at hundreds of patterns from fancy to odd, but none were as simple as I wanted.
I played with the idea of making one freehand just to see how it would turn out. I planned in my mind how I’d make it. I got the hook and yarn together and then I began.
I’ve made plenty of hats and scarves to wear, but this is the first crocheted garment that I’ve made for myself.
It’s coming along faster than I thought it would. I figure I’ll finish it over the next couple days. I hope it turns out okay. Wish me luck.
Wishing you all success on your works-in-progress.
Happy Wednesday!

I’m taking notes. I’m thinking it may turn out well enough I may make another with a few adjustments. 🙂

I’m betting it will be just what you want! I once crocheted a pullover sweater made of granny squares – that was when I was VERY young!

I’ve always liked the granny square sweaters. They look so comfortable and warm. I bet yours was really pretty. 🙂

Did you say “a cardigan to wear around the house?” Really, I’d be proud to wear this any where…with your best dress, or a raggedy pair of jeans!

Thanks so much Mary,
Yep, I figure it may not turn out well enough to wear in public, so I’m not setting my sights to high. It’s coming along better than I hoped, so maybe it will be something I’ll wear in public. We’ll see. 🙂

I absolutely love it! I finally made a cape that I had wanted for years this summer. So I understand.

I bet your cape is really pretty. I don’t know why we wait so long to make things for ourselves. I guess we enjoy making for other folks and save our stuff for last. 🙂

What talent!! I’m not brave enough to try a garment. I usually choose the most simple pattern I can find for the baby blankets I crochet. This will be really nice for you to wear.

You’re so multi-talented, I think you could make anything you set your mind too.
I do understand though. Garments are out of my comfort and confidence zone. Blankets and dishcloths and simple stuff are more my style. My cardigan is coming along nicely. I hope to have it finished soon. 🙂

It looks fantastic so far! I found a base sweater template that I use for every kind of sweater. The template forms the yoke and arm holes and I can customize it to make whatever I want. I love how you decided to come up with your own design when you couldn’t find something you liked. It’s so much fun to design it in your head first and then figure out how to get it that way off the hook isn’t it?!? 😀

It’s so helpful to find a base pattern to use and can make adjustment easily. I enjoy patterns like that. I already have some design changes in mind if I ever make this again. I hope to finish it soon. 🙂
