Random Five Friday – 10-7-2016

p1070804Yesterday morning I looked out and saw a herd of deer in our backyard. I grabbed my camera and took some photos and a movie.

hrbbrdSomething killed a bird and also dug up the corner of my herb garden. We can’t imagine what made such a mess.

p1070854Our ornamental pear trees are full of little fruits. The birds and critters really enjoy these. It’s ashame the pears are inedible for humans.
~*~
brdcrxI’m making some progress on my cross stitch. Having other color threads loaded on needles is the way to go.

I just think it’s a pretty marigold.

Cherry tomatoes, cross stitch & sculpting

10-4-2016-ctLate in the gardening season, I noticed one lone little volunteer tomato plant growing in amongst my tiger lilies. I decided to let it grow. It’s a tall leggy vine and only started branching out when it grew as tall as the lilies. It had a few blooms, but never developed tomatoes until a couple weeks ago. Now it has about a dozen cherry tomatoes on it.
I figured the vine would die with the nights of cool weather, but so far it hasn’t.
If our first hard frost holds off until late in the month, it’s possible we’ll get a few fresh cherry tomatoes. They would be a mighty tasty treat.

p1070298I haven’t progressed very much on my cross stitch. All the changing of the many colors of threads on the needle has slowed me down and made cross stitching not-so-enjoyable.
I thought about how to make my needlecraft more enjoyable and go smoother with less needle threading work..
embr-needlesand then it came to me, have several colors threaded on other needles ready for the color changes.
Cool idea, but I didn’t have any extra embroidery needles so I had to wait until I went shopping to buy some.
I bought a 6 pack of embroidery needles. The low price was a nice surprise.
I haven’t had a chance to load my new needles up and work on my cross stitch. I plan to soon.
I’m happy that I might actually finish my cross stitch before the holidays and have it ready to display with my other decor.

untitled-7I’ve done a small bit of polymer clay sculpting recently. I sculpted 3 cherries of 2 different varieties. They turned out really pretty.

Did you have any late season gardening surprises?

Have you been doing any crafting for the holidays?

Have a great day!

CherryWillow is doing a ‘No-Filter Friday’. She posts a photo on Fridays that she took that have only ‘sizing and adding a copyright’ being the only editing/filtering done to them.
I probably won’t join in every Friday. I get busy and sidetracked, but today, I’m joining in on the fun.
I hope you’ll join in some Friday too.

Time to bring the herbs in

Our area finally got a break on the hot weather. It’s been quite cool here during the night and really nice during the day. I decided it was time to bring my herbs in the house.
20160929_060609I put the netting back on my rosemary a couple weeks ago. I’ve kept it trimmed and it’s grown thick and pretty. So far there hasn’t been any critters appear on it. I’m going to keep the netting on it for a quite a while just to be sure.

p1070459Since my basil is in 5 gallon buckets and way too large to bring in the house, A month ago, I started a few basil plant from cuttings. I want to try and grow basil indoors during the winter. The basil rooted really easily in about a week. When I transplanted them, I made nettings for their pots and kept them covered.
They look pretty neat in my kitchen window. My husband made me a wider window shelf just so I could set the herbs there. He’s a such a good fellow about helping me with stuff like that.

I hope my herbs live and grow here in the house. I plan to take them outside when the temps are warm enough and then bring them in at night.

I’ve been sidetracked this week, I’ll be around catching up on my blog visiting.

I hope you all are enjoying pleasant temps and having a pleasant week.
