Little Bear Cross stitch Project

Here’s a cross stitch project I’m working on. It’s from a little kit. It’s 18 count fabric and that’s a lot of tiny for my middle-age eyes.
I put my needle in the fabric and laid ruler and a quarter on it, to try to give you a bit of an idea of how small the stitches are. Look at the size of the stitches compared to the size of some of the print on the quarter. I’m determined to finish this project this weekend. I’ve got it about half of the way done.

Maybe it’s just my bad luck, but over the years,  just about every cross stitch project that I’ve made from a kit that has red or reddish shades of color in it, there never seems to be enough of that color thread. In my ‘Joy In The Journey’ cross stitch project, I had to go through my embroidery thread and find a reddish color to complete that project… and now with this little project, after I finished the bow over the bear’s head, I ran out of red.  I went through my stash and found a similar color red thread to use for the decor inside of the wreath that encircles the bear. They have more of some of the colors over the amount that the pattern needs. It doesn’t take very much red color thread so I don’t understand why they didn’t add enough in.
But like I said, it’s not just this kit,  I’ve ran into a shortage of the reddish colors in some of the other kits I’ve made over the years. Like this kit, the other kits added over the amount of some of the other colors that are far more than a pattern needs, but not the reddish colors. I don’t get it. I wonder what is the deal with that. Is reddish colors so expensive that the kit makers have to dole it out minimally to save a few micro-cents. I’ve never contacted a company about it. I don’t see any reason too. I always have extra thread that’s fairly close. But I do wonder what the deal is about the shortage of reddish color thread in some of the kits I’ve used.

Have you ran in to this problem of a shortage of one or more colors in any kind of a craft kit?

Wishing you all success in your crafts and hobbies.

*I apologize for the quality of my photo.
It was hard to get an okay photo of the little project.

Random Few For Friday

Talk about late bloomers, my snowball bush has produced
one lovely fluffy pretty bloom.
It’s odd, I think, but pretty neat too.My herb garden has came a long way from when we first started it back in 2016.There’s nothing like homegrown tomatoes!
Yep, that’s the mantra this gardener gardens by. I’ve finished my ‘Joy In The Journey’ cross stitch.
I’m thinking I may make it into a wall
hanging instead of a framed wall picture.
I’m going to leave it on the frame until I decide. My next cross stitch project is called ‘Butterflies & Daisies’.
It reminds me of the butterflies we raised this Summer.I was surfing around for movies and surfed upon a 70 episode set of ‘One Step Beyond’. I’m familiar with the series from watching a few of the episodes on a video site. I didn’t realized it was based on true stories and was even aired before ‘Twilight Zone’ came along. That impressed me and as it was reasonably priced, I bought it. I’ve not watched but a few of the episodes on the first disc. I plan to watch through the episodes in order. I really enjoy the stories. The stories do give one cause-for-pause to ponder the odd events that happen from time-to-time.

Have a great weekend!

WIP Wednesday – Joy In The Journey Cross Stitch

wip-1-24-2017-aI’m starting this lovely cross stitch titled ‘Joy In The Journey’.  I bought it a year or so ago. Since I enjoyed doing the ‘Cardinal Cross Stitch Hanger’ cross stitch I thought I’d give this a try.

I plan to post my updates of any noticeable progress I make on it.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Using my sewing machine, I zig zagged around the edges of the cross stitch cloth so it wouldn’t ravel out.
The fabric had some major creases, so I soaked it in cold soapy water, rinsed it, rung it out rolled up in a towel and ironed it dry.
To find the center, I measured with 2 measuring sticks and made a tiny stitch in the middle mark.
I mounted the cross stitch cloth on a frame with legs that I made out of pvc pipe and pvc joints.
I cross stitched two middle rows of the pattern.
And now my project waits until I’m ready to work on it some more.wip-1-24-2017-b

I hope your week is going well.
Happy crafting!

Random Friday Five – daylily, cross stitch, 3rd man book, clouds & leaves

p1060785One of my daylilies surprised us with a late season bloom. It’s bittersweet knowing it’s probably one of the last blooms of the season.

cardicrosI’ve started a cross stitch project. Decades ago, I enjoyed cross stitch. I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it now. I’m happy to say that I can still do cross stitch and enjoy it. It’s not a big piece, but all the stops and thread changes make my progress slow.
I decided to do a holiday decoration. Hopefully, I’ll have it finished by Christmas and can display it with the other holiday decor.

3rdmanFor me, there’s nothing quite like the feel of an actual physical book. I’ve read many ebooks and have oodles of them through the familiar electronic book distributers, but there’s some books that I prefer to read in the physical form. This is one of those books.

The Third Man Factor By John Geiger
Surviving the Impossible

Hardcover edition 2009
Nonfiction
Stories are based on true events and witness accounts

Comprehension level is moderate.
Type face is good size.

The Third Man Factor is about ‘humans under extreme conditions’ that feel another anomalous person or presence near by. The anomalous 3rd man travels along with them giving them helpful advice and encouragement to survive. The ‘3rd man’ is what the presence is called in the book. The presence may be female. It can be an anomalous person, a relative, friend, angel, guardian, spirit or animal or I suppose just about anything.

Sometimes the ‘person in the extreme condition’ may see the 3rd man in physical form and sometimes even have conversations. Sometimes they communicate telepathy with the 3rd man. Sometimes the 3rd man is a shadowy figure. Sometimes the 3rd man is never seen at all and only felt.

I’m about half way through the book. It’s interesting reading. There’s stories from survivors from many ill fated situations. The book has so far discussed the 3rd man as being a guardian angel, a hallucination or like a spirit.

p1060793We’ve been getting some major glorious cloud formations. I wish I could afford a camera that could produce photos that more successfully shows the gorgeousness of the sky filled with these busy clouds.

9-15-2016-leavesThe leaves are turning brown and falling down announcing Autumn is close at hand. Soon the air will carry a chill as the trees and flora will go to sleep for a long winters nap.
