2017 WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge – Repurpose

“Show us something that you’ve recycled or repurposed,
or an object for which you’ve discovered a clever new use

strawdespenserRepurpose is kind of a hard challenge for me since most of my recycled/reused projects are already posted on my blog. I gave it some thought and decided on a project that I don’t remember ever posting about: drinking straw dispenser. I made this one years ago. It’s quite handy.
The dispenser is made with a fairly tall jar (mine used to be a Planters nut container years ago)
And you need one pour spout from a carton of juice or something.
Wash the spout box especially the spout part thoroughly. Then put the jar’s lid over the spout and draw a circle around it and cut it out.
That’s the gist of it. It’s relatively simple.
I went on Pinterest and saw a few pins about pour spout mason jars. It’s pretty much the same method.collage

WIP Wednesday – Joy In The Journey Cross Stitch

wip-1-24-2017-aI’m starting this lovely cross stitch titled ‘Joy In The Journey’.  I bought it a year or so ago. Since I enjoyed doing the ‘Cardinal Cross Stitch Hanger’ cross stitch I thought I’d give this a try.

I plan to post my updates of any noticeable progress I make on it.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Using my sewing machine, I zig zagged around the edges of the cross stitch cloth so it wouldn’t ravel out.
The fabric had some major creases, so I soaked it in cold soapy water, rinsed it, rung it out rolled up in a towel and ironed it dry.
To find the center, I measured with 2 measuring sticks and made a tiny stitch in the middle mark.
I mounted the cross stitch cloth on a frame with legs that I made out of pvc pipe and pvc joints.
I cross stitched two middle rows of the pattern.
And now my project waits until I’m ready to work on it some more.wip-1-24-2017-b

I hope your week is going well.
Happy crafting!

WildLife Wednesday – Screech

1-15-2017-hootScreech has been spending a great deal of time here during the milder weather. He’s so used-to us that he didn’t open his eyes but a crack when we were in the barn. It gives us a big smile to see this fine-feathered friend trust us enough not to fly away whenever he sees us. I’m glad we didn’t disturb his nap.

Screech has been visiting our barn from time-to-time since 2013. It’s possible that he was there before then and we didn’t know about it. I did a quick search on screech owls and discovered that the oldest one they knew of out in the wild lived to be 14 years and in captivity they could live to be 20 years. Thankfully, his life span is a lot longer than I would have guessed. Hopefully, we’ll have many years of his visits ahead to enjoy.

Wishing you all a wonderful Wednesday!
