Another Finish – Checkered Tote Bag

This ‘Checkered Tote Bag’ was one the unfinished projects that was in my ‘Sewing Project Bag’ because it needed a lining.
I originally started this tote-bag way back in 2019 when I first got my ‘KB All-In-One’ loom. I mentioned it in a post, 3-8-2019 ‘Random 5 For Friday
I finished the basic body pieces by the end of March 2019, but I didn’t join all of them together. I rolled them up with the yarn, put it in a bag and stored it in a drawer. I did that because, I wanted to put zipper pockets in it and at that time, zippers were not in my skill level. I’m so thankful I’m finally able to set zippers fairly well.
Like my other tote bags:
‘It has a zipper-pocket on each side inside. One side zipper-pocket is big enough for my 8-inch kindle fire and the other side pocket is big enough for a mobile phone and some other small stuff.’ (Yep, I cut and pasted that bit from my other post. 😀 )
I put a tasseled icord closure on it. I made the icord using 2 pegs on my KB Loom. I’m using button flowers at the moment to tether it to. The flowers don’t look too bad. I might keep them or I might change them when/if I find different buttons.

Wishing you all a pleasant rest of the week.

Another finish – Bright Tote Bag Lining

2013-brighttote
I’ve finished another project from my sewing project bag. I made a new liner for a tote bag that I made back in 2013. This Bright Tote Bag was the first big loom knit project I made. I used a Martha Stewart knitting loom. I single-crochet-chained every inch of yarn I used. It took a long while, but it was really enjoyable and worth the effort. Making this tote bag project helped me better my loom knitting skills.
The stitch pattern is what I call a ‘basket-weave’. I’ve heard it called a tile stitch and a cobblestone stitch. Doesn’t matter what it’s called, it was a fun stitch to do. I think it looks pretty good for my no-pattern first attempt at a loom knit project.
I’ve always liked the look and colors of this tote. I’m happy with the beads and oblong toggle button, both of which I sculpted out of polymer clay.
However, I never liked my open-pocket lining (lower left side of the collage-photo). Since I’ve figured out the method for setting zippers in the pockets in linings, I decided it was time to replace the lining in my old Bright Tote Bag.
It has a zipper-pocket on each side inside.
One side zipper-pocket is big enough for my 8-inch kindle fire and the other side pocket is big enough for a mobile phone and some other small stuff.
I’m ever so much happier with my old Bright Tote Bag now.

Wishing everyone a happy week of sunshine and smiles.

Long Long Martha Stewart Loom Part 2

P1000773108 inches = 9 feet
2 Martha Stewart Looms
8 – 6 pegs, 8 – 12 pegs, 4 – 36 pegs
288 pegs

Question about Martha Stewart Looms part 2:
“I was thinking of making one very long single loom with 2 packages of MS looms (not using corners or round pieces)…..do you think this will work?”

I put the 2 Martha Stewart Loom sets together in the long-long form. In the long-long form it’s not very sturdy and needs support otherwise it won’t handle the weight of much yarn in making a blanket or a large piece.P1000762

As you can see in the below photo, The long-long form isn’t strong enough to hold it’s own shape. I think it might break if it wasn’t on a stationary support of some sort.P1000777

Loom Knitted Blanket Update

update-2-2-2015

In my 1/12/2015 Monday Mix post, I said I’ll give updates on my blanket when I’ve made significant progress.
I’m happy to say that I feel I’ve made significant progress. I was able to get 4 skeins done so far and my blanket is 26 inches long.
Hopefully, it’ll be finished by mid to late Spring.

yarn1I was doing a bit of organizing in my craft room by putting my yarn into large bags… well, I was beyond surprised to see that I think I might be a yarn-hoarder. lol

So, how about you, have you ever surprised yourself to discover you had a bigger supply of ‘some thing’ than you thought you had?

Happy crafting!t6027

Martha Stewart Loom set

4-msloomMy blogging buddy Renee inspired this post. She mentioned that she didn’t know that Martha made looms.
It occurred to me that she may not be alone on that. I figure I should post some photos of my Martha Stewart loom set to show what I talk about so much in looming.

2-msloomHere’s all the pieces parts straight out of the case.

Pros:
You can weave or knit oodles of stuff in a lot of different sizes.

It’s fun to put together. (Brings back nostalgic memories of tinker toys. 😉 )

Lion Brand web site has info and patterns for the Martha Stewart looms.
Lion Brand – Martha Stewart  has a lots of videos on youtube on how to knit and weave with the looms.
The cast on and the bind off was tricky for me to learn at first, so I was thankful for the videos.

Aggrivations:

5-msloomsetThe Martha Stewart loom hook isn’t good quality and bends/breaks easily.
I do like the handle of the MS loom hook. I wish they’d put a little more time in the actual quality of the hook part.
Fortunately, I had ordered a Knifty Knitter loom hook and didn’t have to use the MS one for long. The MS hook wire was getting weak and would’ve broken in no time.
I now use a super sturdy loom hook that came with my Kb Afghan Loom, so I am good to go.

loomtapeSome of the pegs fit loose and I use painter’s tape to hold them in and some of the pegs fit so tight I carefully hammer them in.

3-msloomThere’s not a comfortable way to store the pegs in the plastic case of the loom set, oh I could put the pegs in bags and stuff them stuff in the back, but I don’t like that at all. So I bought a 6 pack of little waters that my Grandson happily helped empty. I soaked off the labels and use them to store my pegs in. The little bottles work like a charm.

1-msloomI must confess that all-in-all I really enjoy the loom set. In fact I enjoy it so much that I bought a second set. Well, it was on sale and I thought if I had a second set I could put the parts together with my first set and knit or weave some really big stuff. lol Also I can have more than one project going at once. I haven’t used my second set yet, but I have it if I ever take a hankering to use it. 😉

This is all for me at the moment.

I hope you all have a fabulous Friday
and a wonderful weekend.
🙂
