WildLife Wednesday – Not Turtle Egg – updated

One of the fun things about yardening is that I never know what I’m going to encounter. Like today, I was digging in one of my flower beds to plant some marigolds. I was pulling the dirt in around the edge of the marigold, when I found an egg buried under a sweet william.

Cool, I physically laughed out loud. I walked across the yard where my husband was mowing and told him, “I need to show you something.”
He followed me to the flowerbed. He laughed and said, “Isn’t that something. I bet it’s a turtle egg.”

We both shared a laugh at the interesting things we find on our property.
I agreed with him about the turtle egg. We used to see turtles in our yard making nest. So far though, we’ve never seen a baby turtle.

I covered the egg back up with soil.  I hope that it may one day hatch out a turtle. Unfortunately, we’ve had more than a few freezing temperatures this past month. This egg is really close to the top of the soil so it may not be viable now.
Or it might be, we’ll see, time will surely tell.

Have a great rest of the week.
May all your surprises be fun ones.

There may be more eggs. I stopped digging around as soon as I saw the egg.
Also, I’m just guessing it’s a turtle egg. I honestly don’t know what kind of egg it is.

Edited in May 30, 2017- This is not a turtle egg. It’s a hen of some sort.

Random Five Friday – 10-7-2016

p1070804Yesterday morning I looked out and saw a herd of deer in our backyard. I grabbed my camera and took some photos and a movie.

hrbbrdSomething killed a bird and also dug up the corner of my herb garden. We can’t imagine what made such a mess.

p1070854Our ornamental pear trees are full of little fruits. The birds and critters really enjoy these. It’s ashame the pears are inedible for humans.
~*~
brdcrxI’m making some progress on my cross stitch. Having other color threads loaded on needles is the way to go.

I just think it’s a pretty marigold.

Wishing you all a safe and pleasant weekend.

Scattered Storms

IMG_0118The dogwoods were in full bloom this weekend. I love the many stages of bloom they go through. It’s hard some years to catch the full bloom stage. But this year I manage to get a few photos of them.

It’s scattered storms today and forecast to storm for the next few days. I’m making this post in between storms while I have electric and internet. I’m going to try and get some blog visiting in, but I can’t promise I will. So, if I don’t visit your blog, Don’t give up on me. I’ll be around when I can.

IMG_0232We had our first casualty in the flower beds. Apparently the baby bunny some critter decided to eat a marigold and then change it’s mind. The bottom part of the plant is still planted in the ground and I figure it’ll grow back with time.

We have some new plants growing in the garden. The storms will either wash the tender seedlings away, drown them or give them a boost to grow. We shall see.

I have to stop and try to post this now before the next storm hits. I hear distant thundering.

Wishing you all a great week.
