Happy 5th Birthday Sheli-bean!

The top news for the week is that today is Sheli-bean’s 5th birthday. I tried to take a new photo of him to post for today, but he’s having no part of it. He thinks since it’s his birthday that he should be able to choose if he’s photographed or not. Mmm, I had to agree with him. So here’s a photo I took of him awhile back when I caught him sitting on one of our end tables. He’s such a funny boy sometimes. I decorated it a bit to celebrate his special day.

My dear sweet Sheli, we love you so very much. You’re a wonderful part of our hearts and a special part of our family. Thank you for being our wonderful bossy adorable little boy. You always cheer us up when we’re down and give us many smiles every day. Thank you so very much.

2017 WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge – Shadow

2017 WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge
~Shadow~

“This week, grab your camera and capture a shadow.”
~*~

7-25-2013I couldn’t take a shadow photo this week. So, I went through my old
photo files and picked out one from 2013 of Shelibean, his shadow
and the shadow of some flowers I was growing on the porch.
I hope it’ll do okay for the weekly challenge.

Wishing you all fun with the WP photo challenge!

WIP Wednesday – New Blankets for Shelibean

When Shelibean first came to join our family, I discovered that he loved crocheted blankets. I crocheted him 4 simple little blankets. I used Red heart yarn that I had bought several years before. It was even the last of the yarn. I was happy to use it up. Crocheting Sheli the blankets restarted my love of crochet and yarn crafting in general. The blankets have held up really well even though I wash them alot. I figure they’ll last for a few more years.8-15-2012-sb

It’s been 4 1/2 years since I made the blankets. I thought Sheli might enjoy some new ones.  I use a simple granny square pattern. The blankets work up quite fast. I plan to make 3 (maybe more)
Wednesday-work-in-progress 2 down 1 to go.2-8-2017-sb

Shelibean’s enjoying the first 2 blankets so much the he lay still while I took his handsome photo.

Wishing you all progress in your
works-in-progress, whatever they may be.

SheliBean hates pumpkin

P1050649I took this photo of Shelibean when he was relaxing after having a ruff (sic) day. He doesn’t do well with storms and it had stormed for better part of the day.

Sometimes being so upset causes Sheli to have an upset tummy. Pumpkin was always my first choice to settle a dog’s tummy… until Sheli… When Sheli was a puppy I’d try to get him to eat a little pumpkin to settle his tummy and he would have no part of it.

My husband and I discussed it and decided that since Sheli is now an adult dog, he may be more incline to eat pumpkin. I opened the can and dipped out a half teaspoon. My husband tried to give it to him, but Sheli physically turned his nose up at it and put it on ignore.
I tried to give some to him by taking little dabs of the canned pumpkin on my finger and letting him lick it off. That worked for about 1/4 teaspoon and then he refused to take another bite.

I was hopeful that since he’s not very big, that maybe the little bit he ate would help. Thankfully he didn’t have anymore tummy issues.

All the dogs we’ve had in decades past would eat pumpkin like it was sauteed steak.
I’m glad Sheli is a hardy boy and we haven’t had to worry too much about his health.

Does your pets like to eat pumpkin?
Do you use pumpkin for your pets tummy issues?

Wishing for all your pets to be healthy and happy.

Puppy’s got a brand new bag

7-2-2016-toolpupyMy husband brought home a new tool bag. When he set it on the floor, Sheli climbed in it like he was staking claim to the new bag.
My husband couldn’t resist picking the bag up to see if Sheli would stay in and I couldn’t resist taking a photo.
Sheli was quite content to stay in the bag, but quickly hopped out of when my husband set it back on the floor.

Pets gotta love ’em.

Shelibean – May 2016

patootie-1We’ve been fortunate to have a some days of nice weather and the opportunity to let Sheli romp around outside. patootie-2It’s hard to get a really good photo of him. He knows when I start to take a picture & turns away quickly. patootie-3Occasionally, Sheli pauses long enough for me to capture his adorable sweet self.

Wishing you happy days of enjoying going outside
with your pets whatever species they may be.
2For those of you that aren’t familiar with Sheli aka Shelibean, he’s a shichi, that’s a cross between a Shih Tzu & Chihuahua.

Updates: Gardening & Shelibean

IMG_1342The last photo I posted of Shelibean, he was playing in snow on the porch. Here’s a recent photo of him setting enjoying the sunshine sitting on the porch. We just went through blackberry winter and it’s been more than a bit chilly, so a day in the warm sunshine was enjoyed by all of us.

IMG_1287My 3-8-2015 taking-a-break post has a photo of my roadside lilies just starting to grow. Here’s a photo of them now, grown and getting ready to bloom.

IMG_1232My Basil is looking real pretty, it was such tiny seedlings in the last photo I had posted of it. I’ve already used my basil a few times. I enjoy harvesting it because the aroma fills the air and smells so nice: oh and it’s mighty tasty too.

IMG_1302We planted only half the garden this year. It’ll be easier for us to take care of. Hopefully, if the weather cooperates, even though it’s small, it’ll produce lots of yummy veggies.

IMG_1303It’s really hard to get squash and cucumber seeds to germinate in our garden. I normally start the seeds in flats indoors. This year I thought of a new method that’s less work & low maintenance. I’m happy to report it worked like a charm as you can see from the above squash photo. Below is a graphic that I drew of the method I used.
garseedIt occurred to me that one could dig a hole in the garden, fill it with potting soil and plant the seeds. This would basically be like planting the seeds in pots, only it’s in the garden and there’s no transplanting required. Cool!
I wish I would have thought of this years ago. ~happy dance~

IMG_1264In my 2-27-2015 post, I posted a few photos of  ‘What a difference a day makes‘ in what the yard looks like, well I thought I’d share a photo and show what a difference 3 months make. Lush green foilage sure makes the area looks more cheerful.

I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend. I’m happy to say that over this long weekend we got all of our yard-work done and enjoyed several hours of sitting out on the porch. It’s a treasure to spend time together relaxing during the nice weather. We were especially happy that we were finally blessed with some rain. Our garden and yard was in desperate need of it.

Life has finally evened out here at the old homeplace. We’re feeling fine and doing okay. I’ve done a bit of sewing. I plan to share about it sometime (as soon as I can get fairly decent photos of my project).

Anyway, I’m back blogging and hopefully I won’t have to take another break for a long long time. ~crosses my fingers~and says a pray~

Wishing you all a pleasant week of sunshine and smiles.

Shelibean the Snow King

IMG_9405b

We got a peach of a snow last night. Shelibean zoomed in and out of the house so excited and each time got closer to the cold white snow. He finally got up enough courage to investgate the white fluffy covering and then took a good taste of it. He had a fun time running around and jumping in it.
Sheli was so cute I couldn’t resist sharing the only photo of him that wasn’t blurred. lol
