I’ve been freezing my bell pepper harvest.
I’m using the same method as I always use.
Flash Freezing & Vacuum Packing
I wanted to get some ZipLoc Vacuum Bags, but I couldn’t find any. They’ve either stopped making them or they’ve sold out for the season.
What I did find was vacuum bags by Freshsaver. You’re supposed to use them with a small Handheld Vacuum Sealing Appliance
I studied the package and noticed the bags works the same way as the bags by ZipLoc.
So I figured why not try them.
The small ZipLoc handheld manual vacuum pump worked like a charm with the bags for me. Now if they’ll hold their seal after being frozen awhile, I’ll be ever so happy. The FS bags come in several sizes and are priced fairly well for the product. Well, in our department store they’re fairly priced and handy to purchase. I’m so glad I don’t have to purchase a whole new vacuum sealer system.

I thought I saw some vacuum bags at the grocery store but now I’m not sure. I am going to look closely next time.

I’m grateful for our easier food preservations. I hold great admiration for the our fore-Mothers being able to preserve enough food for the winter using the labor intensive methods they had to work with. 🙂

Have you seen the price that Walmart and other greedy people are asking for the Ziploc vacuum bags on e-bay? They must think these are collectors items. I hope no one is dumb enough to pay $11.00-$20.00 per bag! You can either use the Food Saver Fresh Savor bags or buy a Ziplock or Food Savor Fresh Savor electric heat food saving machine for the kind of money these crazy people are asking!!!

I haven’t shopped on EBay or any online store for the bags. I was fortunate to be able to buy them at a local store for a reasonable price.
It’s amazing how expensive simple things are sometimes when they become popular.
