WIP Wednesday – Joy In The Journey Cross Stitch

wip-1-24-2017-aI’m starting this lovely cross stitch titled ‘Joy In The Journey’.  I bought it a year or so ago. Since I enjoyed doing the ‘Cardinal Cross Stitch Hanger’ cross stitch I thought I’d give this a try.

I plan to post my updates of any noticeable progress I make on it.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Using my sewing machine, I zig zagged around the edges of the cross stitch cloth so it wouldn’t ravel out.
The fabric had some major creases, so I soaked it in cold soapy water, rinsed it, rung it out rolled up in a towel and ironed it dry.
To find the center, I measured with 2 measuring sticks and made a tiny stitch in the middle mark.
I mounted the cross stitch cloth on a frame with legs that I made out of pvc pipe and pvc joints.
I cross stitched two middle rows of the pattern.
And now my project waits until I’m ready to work on it some more.wip-1-24-2017-b

I hope your week is going well.
Happy crafting!

Aluminum Foil Decor on a PineCone Tree

p1100490This pinecone is painted green and decorated with aluminum foil balls and garland. My Grandson suggested that it needed glitter to make it more festive. I used oodles of glitter and also glitter paint on it. Apparently, my glitter and the glitter are both light weight versions because they don’t show up as well as they should for as much as I used. The tree base is a bag made with bakeable bread clay. I baked it and coated it with modpodge. I added a stretchy silver ribbon to finish it.

I’m not very happy with this tree. It looks okay in real life, but nothing special.  I’m thinking about re-decorating it sometime.

I wish you all sparkly happy days!

Acorns in a PineCone Tree

I made a ‘Acorns in a PineCone Tree’ holiday tree.p1100235

I painted the pinecone green and then painted white on the tips of its seed scales.
The acorns were left on the ground by squirrels so I didn’t feel bad about using them. I painted the acorns with sparkly red fingernail polish and painted their caps with mod-podge. I hot-glued the acorns to the pinecone.acrnpncnI sculpted the bag base from homemade bakeable bread clay. I painted it with ‘Apple Barrel’ paint and a coat of mod-podge. I hot-glued the pinecone tree to the bread-clay bag base. I tied a piece of red yarn around the bag for a bow.brdbgs

Wishing you all a happy week!

Christmas 3 Trees Tealight

I designed and created a Christmas 3 Trees Tealight.
The 3 trees are made melting pony beads and a metal cookie cutter.
I left the trees sort of rough edged like they might be in the wild.
I hot glued the trees together to make them like a tent to set over a battery operated tealght candle.
I made a small red ball out of polymer clay for the top of the trees and painted it with clear glittery paint.
I made a base for the trees/tealight using the same method I made the trees.
I set a battery operated tealight on the base and set the tree tripod over it.0-all-tetrelghtI like the design pretty well. It’s different because depending on where you’re sitting determines which tree you see… unless you put it on a rotating base.tetrelght

Wishing you crafting fun this holiday season!

*just an extra note:
I fashioned a temporary rotating base out of an old music box to make the short video to show you each tree of the tealight lit and flickering.

2016 WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge – Chaos

~Chaos~

“This week, let’s embrace disorder and its creative power.”11-8-2016-wpcchaos

I’m doing several crafting projects right now. Over the past few days I’ve brought several supplies into my kitchen to have handy. I use the top of my sewing cabinet to hold my supplies until I need them. The supplies have piled up and at first glance look like chaos.

Wishing you all fun with the WP photo challenge!
