I needed only a few flowers started this year and didn’t want to spend a fortune on seed trays. So after a while of thinking about it, I came up with the bright idea to order some peat pellets and use my cookie tins as trays for them.
So far the tins are working out quite well.
I figure they might rust sometime, but for seed starting, that’s not a problem.
Wishing you all a wonderful rest of the week!

What a great idea! I am always looking for ways to repurpose things rather than throw them away. I’ve never seen pat pellets before …we live to learn.

Thanks so much Pip,
I’m happy to share this simple cookie tin idea.
Peat pellets are handy and so much easier to deal with than potting soil and trays. However, when I used to start oodles of vegetables seedlings, I preferred the potting soil and trays. Since I only start a small amount of seeds now, the peat pellets work just fine. đ

Hi Kathy,
No, those are ‘Semi-Dwarf Mixed colors’. I started 3 varieties, the other 2 are ‘Oklahoma Mix’ and ‘Cut & Come Again’. đ

Hi Luctannluna,
The pellets are so helpful. That’s a really good idea. I love it when we can repurpose when we can. đ
