Dreaming of a Picnic

1-picnicblanketPicnic weather is finally here. Hopefully I’ll be able to use my picnic blanket sometime this Summer.
I made it last year using my Martha Stewart loom set, but never got a chance to use it outside.
2-picnicblanketMy picnic blanket is about 62″x 44″
After I got it all together and finished, I washed it and laid it wrong side up on the floor so I could clip/tie off  any loose yarn ends. My grandson laid down on it. Like a toddler following in his big brothers footsteps Shelibean laid down on it too. They looked so comfy that it made me wonder if it’s more of a napping blanket instead of a picnic blanket. lol I’m glad they laid on it and I was able to click off a couple photos because it kind of helps give an idea of the size.

The squares are half red and half other colors. I positioned them in a manner to be a zigzag type pattern.
I wove red & white triangles to fill in the sides and corners.3-picnicblanket5-picnicblanketThe only thing I would have done differently with my picnic blanket is I would have made it one row of squares wider so the zigzag would be pointing the same way on each side. I didn’t realize it until I had it mostly sewn together and I wasn’t about to take it apart.

I’m quite pleased with my blanket. I’ve gotten many compliments on it. Most folks are fascinated that I used a Martha Stewart Loom set to weave it. I tell them it was somewhat like making a quilt. I made the blocks and then hand sewed them all together. It took alot of time to make all the blocks, but it’s so worth it when I see my finished creation.

picnicI hope you all have warm sunny days
to have many fun filled picnics.
Have a great rest of the week!

Here’s a video I found on youtube that shows
how to weave the triangles on a square loom:

Memorial Day Wreath

2014-memdayI made this wreath in honor of our Military for Memorial Day.
It’s a small but sincere effort on my part to show my appreciation to the troops past & present and their families for all they’ve given and still give for us. Their sacrifices are great.

Using polymer clay, I sculpted one rose for each month of the year and the pearl centers are for the tears shed for the troops continual sacrifices 12 months a year.

The wreath base is made from newspapers and covered in camouflage fabric. I covered the base with blocks made on a cardboard loom using camouflage yarn.

Here’s wishing you all an awesome week.

Blackberry Winter & Misc

IMG_0970I hope everyone had a good week. We’ve got colds here at my home. I’d hoped we were over that for the year, but oh well…

IMG_0898Blackberry winter has arrived. The temps get down into the low 40’s. That’s not too awful, but we got spoiled real quick to sitting outside enjoying the 70’s and the 80’s tempperatures.  It’s annoying that we need the heat on again.

IMG_1327My Basil isn’t doing well, most of it got bit back from the cold. I usually don’t have a problem during Blackberry with my porch garden. I guess where my basil was sitting there must’ve been an extra cold spot or something. Bummer dude!

IMG_1302The Baby Bunny living under our porch Something keeps chopping our Gerber Daisies to pieces. I’m going to surf around and see if I can find a deterrent. I don’t want to hurt whatever’s doing it, but I do want it to stop.

IMG_1319I started a new crochet blanket project with my shades of purple yarn. I didn’t get very far on it before I got sick. So, I’ve put it away until I’m well again.

And so it goes for me at the moment.
Time to go back to bed and wait for the cold to pass. t2513

I hope you all have a pleasant weekend!
