Random Five Friday – 8-22-2014

0-shelibeanI figure what better way to start off a Random Friday Five than with Shelibean.  I wanted a new photo of Sheli to post here, but he was having none of it. I scooped him up and sat him on an old table outside and still he wouldn’t cooperate. This was the only photo out of a half dozen that was even recognizable. It’s like he knows if he moves his head it blurs the photo. Apparently Sheli loves being a lap-landing-ornament but he ain’t gonna be nobody’s super model.

IMG_6329My husband’s flower bed is looking wonderful. It’s so pretty in real life.

IMG_6341Our Gerber daisies never have had a chance to flourish because something keeps cutting them down.
I was happy when I found this one with a bloom and a ladybug. I figure the bloom won’t be there much longer. It’s either rabbits or squirrels that cuts our Gerber daisies down. Nope it’s not a cutting worm. Want to know how I know it’s not a cutting worm? Because cutting worms don’t leave foot prints in the dirt and they don’t scatter the leaves and stems. lol

IMG_6325The walnuts are falling, which means that Autumn is soon to be here putting the land to bed getting ready for the long winter’s sleep.  We don’t ever harvest the walnuts, we leave them for the squirrels to eat and bury all over the yard.

IMG_6392I’ve been working a bit on my latest wreath. I’ve decided it needs some color. Instead of buying colored burlap I dyed it with coffee and kool-aid. I’m pleased as peaches with the results. Since I’m using this on a wreth, I’m not worried if the color would wash out or not.
While I’m discussing burlap, here’s a little stuffed heart I made that may end up on my new wreath. I’m quite pleased with the way it looks and I wanted to show it off. 😉IMG_6387

This is all for me at the moment.

I hope you all have a pleasant weekend.

  1. love the photo of Shelli – sometimes our little 4-legged babies don’t cooperate with pictures, do they? Your flowers are beautiful! I have to put my Gerbera daisies in pots and keep them on the porch, lest they meet the same fate as yours. That salmon pink is so pretty, and the ladybug is a nice bonus.
I LOVE burlap – can’t wait to see your wreath made with it.
Happy Weekend! We’re home from the dentist and glad that’s over!

It’s such fun taking photos of our four footed Babes, I just don’t understand why they don’t enjoy the attention. lol
I’m saving seeds from my Gerber daisies… if this one slightly hidden bloom survives the critters. Growing in pots sounds like a good option to help protect them.
I like using the burlap more than I thought I would. I just need to get the design set in my head and stick to it.
Awesome that the Dentist trip is over.
      Happy weekend to you too,
      🙂

    • Hi Sheryl
Yep, it’s a bittersweet time of year. I look forward the world turning to a rainbow of colors, but yet I don’t want Summer to end yet. 🙂

  2. What a cute fur baby! We trained our coco to take pics by first teaching her to “watch us” then holding a treat behind the camera for extra incentive. 🙂

Your Coco sounds like a well trained little girl. That’s a great idea to get her attention. I’m going to have to remember that and give it a try. 🙂

  3. It’s good to see Sheli, even if he’s uncooperative. The burlap dyed to pretty shades, can’t wait to see that wreath! Your flowers are gorgeous, and I love the daisy.

When I can catch Sheli still for a moment in the right light, he takes a cute photo. But he’s so busy that I’m usually not fast enough.
I was pleased with the burlap colors. I took the blue kool-aid and mixed a bit of red with it and now I have some lavender burlap. I hope I can make something pretty for the wreath out them.
      🙂

  4. Love that Shelibean he’s so cute I always smile when there is a new picture of him. your flowers are beautiful, the walnuts here in WI are starting to fall some of the leaves are already starting also way to early for that to happen. Your colors turn out great with the coffee & Kool-Aid not to many people realize it can work as dye I also use food coloring to dye materials. I’m looking forward to seeing your new wreath and the heart on it, it’s real cute! 🙂

Sheli thanks you for the sweet compliments.
It must be sad to see the fall coming after you all had such a long winter. Bless your hearts. Maybe this winter will be a kinder and shorter one.
Thanks for the tip about food coloring. I hadn’t thought of it. I’ve been wanting to die some burlap green but didn’t want to buy dye or lime kool-aid. However, I do have food coloring, so now I’ll be able too have green. Cool! Thanks so much for that. 🙂
