Full Worm Moon 2021!

3-29-2021: I stepped outside this morning and took a photo of the full moon. Yes, I know I should have taken it last night, but I forgot.
This full moon’s moniker is the’ Worm Moon’. it’s named because of the earthworms that might be venturing out and taking a slither across the terrain this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere.
According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, this full moon is known by several other names as well. Here’s a link to the article: Full Moon for March 2021

With all the storms and rain that we’ve had here lately, I expect more n’few of them slimmers might have woken up and ventured out and gone swimming.
Thankfully, the rains/storms have stopped (for a few days).
The sun is forecast to shine. It looks like it’s going to be a pretty good few days of fairly nice daily temperatures.

Wishing you all a week of sunshine and smiles.

Random 5 For Friday

I’ve a new knitting loom project in the works. I hope to get it finished soon. Here’s a sneak peak.

I bought a sunflower mat and butterfly flowers from the fundraiser my niece’s sorority was having. I wish it was warm enough to get these darlings growing, but that’ll be a couple months from now.

The freezing snap we had this past weekend bit our pear tree blossoms and made them start turning brown. The pear trees are usually so pretty with their dainty white blooms, but this year, they’re sad looking.

It’s warmed up a smidge here, it’s a dreary, rainy 42°. We’ve had so much rain that even the daffodils look sad.

Earlier this week we had internet trouble. We bought a new router and thought that would fix the issues. Well, it did for about 24 hours then the issues returned worse than before.
I picked up our home phone to call internet support and was met with a shrill squelch and loud static. I checked our other house phone lines and they were dead.
I thanked the good Lord above for my handy-dandy mobile phone and then called the phone company and reported the issues.
They sent out a service guy and he discovered that our phone trouble was caused by line issues down-the-road-a-ways. It took 3 service people a few hours to fix the landline.
Our phone works great and the internet is faster than ever… Yep, you guessed it, we didn’t need a new router. However, since our other router was 4 years old, we decided to keep the new one. We’ll hang on to the old one for back-up.

I hope you all have a weekend free of cold and internet issues.

Blooming Mini Daffodils

My mini daffodils are blooming. They’re a fun sign of Spring. I was hoping to get a pretty picture of them in the sunshine. Unfortunately, the rain has set in and the sun is hidden behind a canopy of gray clouds. Fortunately, daffodils are bright yellow and they show fairly well in a photo anyway.
I could have picked a few, brought them inside, and tried to take some better photos. I just didn’t have the heart to pick them. To me, they’re out there trying so hard to cheer up the winter world. I leave them to grow and bloom and glow with hope for warmer days to come.

Here’s wishing you all warm temps and signs of Spring.

Screech came for a short visit

Screech came to visit the other day.
He’s molting and looks most unsettled.
It was good to see him again.

Thankfully, we’re finally getting some rain. The storms are few and far between. I’m not a fan of storms, but as long as they’re giving us rain, I don’t mind them a bit… at the moment… In our area (so far) The land is drinking up the rain about as fast as it falls and hits the ground. We’re due for more over the next few days. When the weather allows, we sit outside and enjoy the cooler weather brought by the rains. The cooler temperatures are a refreshing bonus of the storms too.

I hope your week is a good one!

1- 12-2017 Weather Report – rainy, warm & windy

p11101131-12-2017 67° Windy, Cloudy and rainy
The wind feels like a warm Spring wind, it’s amazing.
If it wasn’t so dreary and damp out it’d be a lovely day.

This post ends up my 12 days of January weather reports.
Now I’ll wait and see how they compare to the months ahead.

There’s a gnome-hater in our midst. I’m not sure what critter it is, but hate gnomes, it does. I stand my gnomes up and within a night or two, something knocks them all down.
I suspect that the critter was foraging and knocked them over when it rooted underneath them with it’s nose… or it hates standing gnomes. :/p1110064

Wishing you all great weather the rest of the winter.

*just a note* – I had to drill holes in the bottom of my mushroom birdbath to keep it drained and dry because when it held water, it peeled and turned icky and stunk. It’s real disappointing.

1-10-11-2017 Weather Report – rainy

p1110049It’s 57° a cloudy gray rainy day today. The bird bath is full of rainwater instead of snow.

I decided to wait and do the weather report for the 10th day and 11th day together since both days were forecast to be the same warmer and rainy.

Only one more day and then I’ll have the first 12 days of the weather this year to compare the next 12 months too.

Here’s hoping this 11th day of 2017 is good one for you.

Weather Forecast Folklore

It’s been cloudy and rainy these first 3 days of 2017, the temperature has been between the 40’s and mid-60’s (Fahrenheit). It’s a nice 64° today, the sun even peeked out for a few scattered random minutes. I raced outside with my camera to try to get a photo of the sunshine. Unfortunately, everything is so tan, brown and gray winter colors that the sunshine didn’t show up. However, I managed to get a photo of the sun making shadows of our fence by my rainchain garden. And then the sun saw my camera and raced behind the clouds and the rains came again. No rainbow though.1-3-2017-sunspotDepending on what folklore one is exposed too, supposedly there’s certain days of the year that forecast the weather for other times of the year.
One of them I’ve heard is that the weather during the first 12 days of January is supposed to predict the weather for the 12 months of the year. So, based on that, it could be moderately cool and wet the next three months.1-3-2017-rainI guess, I should mention that in the lore the precipitation can be interchangeable: rain for snow, fog for rain. I guess wet and dampness equals any form of rain, snow, fog, ice or dew. Folklore is very flexible that way. 😉

Just for fun, I hope I can remember to make a note of the weather for all 12 days, to see how they compare to the rest of the months of the year.

How’s the weather been in your region so far this year?
Do you know any folklore about the first 12 days of a year and weather?

Ready for Rain

4-4-2016-rc
For a while now, I’ve wanted to make a rain chain. I think it’s a quaint and cheerful decoration.
I found a website that has helpful directions on how to make a rain chain.

There was a few things I needed to do differently from the directions.
I didn’t want to hang a chain under a gutter spout because if we decide to move, it’s something that we’d need to fix.
I toyed with the idea of hanging the chain from a shepherd’s hook and let it dangle over a container. It took me a day or two to think of a bird bath.
The chain would have to be shorter over a birdbath, but I decided a few small buckets might be quite charming.
I finally had it all worked out in my mind, I just needed to get my supplies together. It took a few weeks, but finally I had them all gathered up.

We worked on the flower bed off and all during last week and set up the bird bath. The weather Sunday was a bit chilly, but nice enough for us to stay outside and make my rain chain. It was quite late in the afternoon when we got started on it and after dark when we finished.

The stone dangling from the bottom of the chain is a small garden stone I bought last year. It set on my patio table because it was too small to put in my garden. I was delighted when I discovered it was the right weight and size to use with my rain chain. Pretty neat huh?4-4-2016-rc00

I plan to plant annual flowers around the birdbath and also I might even plant some chard for tasty color. Oh and I plan to put my garden flag hanger there too… as soon as I make a flag for it…

I can hardly wait for the next rain so I can see how my rain chain is going to do. I hope I can get a clear photo of it in action to share.

Wishing you all cheerful days of sunshine.ec-sunny
