Taking pictures in the garden is one of the extra joys of gardening. It also helps me to see the health of the plants/vines.
As I was taking photos of my squash I saw an adult Squash Vine Borer. I was not happy about it. Fortunately, I had on my handy-dandy plastic gloves and was able to grab the demon bug and dispatch of her in short measure. This, I might add, is quite a feat, since these particular pests are fast. Thankfully she hadn’t laid an egg.
In my opinion, the SVB is one of the most vicious pests in the garden because it’s almost impossible to do anything about them.
And so the battle begins…
In 2015, I wrote about a SVB grub that showed up in a squash stem I had harvested.
Here’s a link to that post ‘Evil Demon Squash Vine Borer Grub’
Here’s wishing you a season free of garden pests.
.
Good for you, E.C.! Hope there aren’t more of them lurking around.

Thanks Anita,
Unfortunately it’s that time of year for all sorts of garden pests.
Fortunately, our season is about over for the year and the battles are mostly over. 🌞

I hated squash bugs, I found that spraying them with soapy water killed them because it caused their oils to dissolve and plug up their breathing holes, and you aren’t putting poison on the plants. But you have to tear the bits of leaves off where they lay their eggs underneath the leaves because it doesn’t kill the eggs. Yes, they can just suck the life out of your squash plant :(. I read that you shouldn’t plant them close to where you grew them the year before, but if you have a small garden it’s hard to do. All you can do is try to kill the adults and get rid of the eggs. The ones I had laid gold colored eggs on the underside of the leaves and the babies when they hatched were a bright blue, weird. I miss gardening, but apt life has no room for a garden :(.

Hello LDSVenus,
Welcome to my blog.
Thanks for the helpful hints. I’m in total agreement with you, using natural methods of control is the best way to battle them. I’m thankful our season is done, and the battle is over for this year.
Thanks so much for visiting and leaving a great comment.
I hope you’ll visit again sometime.
