Random 5 for Friday: Daffodils and Snow – Needlepoint – embroidery pattern – twitter – Valentine’s Day

1)February 7th, it snowed. My daffodils were budding, so since they were budding, I’ve decided to count it as fulfilling the snow-daffodil ‘saying’ for the year.

Thankfully the snow melted quickly.
February 9th, my mini daffodils started blooming.

2)I’ve been working on my ‘Classic Impressions Needlepoint‘. I’ve made progress, it’s not really noticeable progress because I’m working on little details. Needleworkers will understand that sometimes a lot of detail work doesn’t always look like a lot of progress. So, I’ll update when it shows progress.

3)Not sure what to make of this curious looking embroidery pattern: ‘Mushroom Girl’

4) I have a question for twitter users:
My blog has been linked with my twitter account since I opened it. I’ve gotten only a couple hits from twitter over the years.

Snow – Soup & Christmas Tree

11-12-2019 We woke up to a light snow that had fell during the night.
It was super cold and in the teens, so that meant it was a great day for a pot of chicken vegetable soup and a pone of cornbread. It really hit the spot and felt like a warm nostalgic hug.
My husband has been in the mood to put up our Christmas tree since first frost, but held off until the 10th of this month. You can say it’s way too early, but we enjoy the extra festive sparkle it brings to our home. Thankfully our livingroom is large enough that the tree and decor isn’t in-the-way.

Hornworms & a Female Hummingbird

Hornworms are sphinx moth (hawk moth) caterpillars.
It’s a big beautiful moth. Dark in color and I’ve only seen them in the evening.
Below is a photo I took back in 2017.
mmm. Now that I look through photos in the search engines, I’m not sure this is a sphinx or hawk moth. It was a huge moth though and a pollinator. What kind do you think it is?
The sphinx moth is a pollinator and as is with our gardening methods we left the last 2 tomato plants for the nursery of their Hornworms.
There was originally 3 Hornworms left on the plants and then just these 2.
Then there was just 1 caterpillar and it ran out of cherry tomatoes, so I started feeding it store bought cherry tomatoes. It enjoyed them for a few days and then it disappeared. I figure it left to go into it’s pupae state. I hope that the 3 caterpillars, we let mature, mutate into some healthy pollinators next Spring.
One evening I was washing dishes and saw a wee female hummingbird land on the tomato cage near the last caterpillar. I took a photo through the glass and screen and so the quality isn’t great. However, the size comparison is unsettling. The caterpillar is almost as big as the hummingbird. Just think how dreadful it would be if the caterpillar wasn’t a vegan. 😉
