Flashback Friday – Bunny Sculpt Tutorial

bun4Today I’m going to start having  ‘Flashback Fridays’ each week where I’ll re-post a craft or something from my old blog ‘Enjoyingcreating‘. I have several crafts and things from it that I think would be fun to share again here on my new blog. Plus, this gives me another opportunity to keep my blog active.

I hope you all will enjoy seeing my crafts and things from years past on my ‘Flashback Fridays’ postings.

To start my ‘Flashback Fridays’,  since we’re in the early throws of Spring and Easter is coming up soon, I decided to post my ‘Bunny Sculpt tutorial’.

This little bunny is about 2 1/4 inches long when it’s finished. The photos make it look bigger. It’s cuter in real life.

Let me know if you or your children make a bunny by this tutorial. And be sure to take some pictures too. I’d love to see your creative little bunnies.

I originally made this tutorial for polymer clay, but you can use homemade clay or air-dry clay.

If you use air-dry or homemade clay, please remember to ignore the baking instructions.
~*~

Bunny Sculpt Tutorial
~Adult supervision is required~

Supplies:
polymer clay or an air dry clay
a toothpick

.
Make the following pieces:
1 – 1 1/2 inch oblong ball of clay for body
1 – 1/2 inch round ball of clay for head
4 – 1/4 inch small oblong balls for feet
1 – 1/4 inch round ball for tail
2 – 1/2 inch cone shapes for ears

.
.
Press the clay in place as follows:
1/4 inch round ball on one end of the oblong body.
1/2 inch head ball at the other end of oblong body.
4 small oblong balls in feet positions.
2 cone shapes on top of head for ears

bun4Next you need:
1 tiny light pink ball of clay
2 tiny dark pink balls of clay

Press the clay in place as follows:
2 dark pink clay balls in eye positions
1 light pink ball in nose position
Take a toothpick and draw a smile
and dent the eyes to make pupils

If you’re using air dry clay, you’re finished.
Set your Bunny sculpt somewhere safe and let it dry.

If you’re using bakeable clay then go to the next steps.

Before baking,
Pierce the body underneath to allow
clay to bake thoroughly so it won’t
crack or poof or something.

Bake the polymer clay bunny at the manufacturers recommended temperature and for the recommended length of time.
Allow bunny to cool before touching.

Tah – dah, you’re done and have a wee little bunny figurine.

Windy Wednesday (windsocks)

There’s been some super windy days here lately. The winds reminded me of a windsock project I’ve been thinking about since last year when we bought a couple of windsocks for the garden. I was surprised at how little there is to a windsock. It occurred to me that a windsock could be made out of plastic soda pop bottle or a plastic milk jug and plastic grocery bags.

The above photo is the result of my attempts. Not bad, they fly pretty well. I wish I had of had some more different colors of plastic bags. I can imagine a windsock made out of a rainbow of colors blowing in the wind.

I think the windsocks are kind of a neat way to recycle a little bit of trash into something a bit fun.

Monday Mix – 4-7-2014

IMG_8710The screech owl that my husband named Screech is still with us. I apologize for the photo but it was looking straight at me and I didn’t want to use the flash. I didn’t want to hurt it’s eyes. I’m surprised it’s still here. I figured it was just wintering over in our barn. But maybe this means it’s a girl and will have baby screechlettes sometime this summer. That would be so fun. It makes me smile just to think of it. If you click on it’s name, Screech, you can see better and clearer photos of it.

IMG_8767I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend. I also hope you was able to get out and enjoy some sunshine.
We had mostly sunny days and storms at night. Our temps varied from low 30’s to high 60’s. This time of year is so goofy that way.

Don’t laugh… I harvested my first ever asparagus. I’m tickled pink about it. This is the 3rd year since I started the seed, so I picked it. Hopefully in a few days there will be a few more stalks ready for harvest and I’ll pick them and add them to these and cook them up for us to eat. I’ll let you know how that plan goes.
Okay you can laugh now. lol 😉

My seedlings are coming along nicely. They look a little scraggly but soon I’ll transplant them into bigger containers and hopefully they’ll look stronger and healthy.

IMG_8738The flora and fauna are trying so hard to come out for the year. I discovered a ladybug in one of my pear tree photos. I guess it was trying to stay sheltered in the tree and weather out the storms.

IMG_8799Our pear trees are loosing they’re blooms now. I wish they’d keep them longer. There’s not much prettier tree than one in full bloom.

IMG_8781The dandelions are blooming everywhere. They require so little to survive and they’re quite cheerful.

Here’s a sneak peek of the colors of yarn of a crochet project I started last week. Hopefully, I’ll finish it soon and then I’ll post a photo of the finished project.

April Wreath

easta1aI got a carried away with my April ‘Wreath of the Month‘
When I started making the wreath base by twisting newspapers and forming them into a circle it looked kind of oval shaped. Mmmm, Then inspiration took over and instead of fixing it and making it a nice and round, I kept it and finished making it into an egg shaped base. I really liked the way it looked.
I painted the base in light blue and light green to help give more color to the Easter grass and to hopefully lessen any gaps or thin spots the grass may have.

I had a great deal of fun making the pom-pom critters. It reminded of an Easter when my son was a toddler. I made pom-pom chicks for all my nieces and nephews. The kids really loved them.

I crocheted the little flowers and added a pearl bead for the center.

For the eggs, I had some left over plastic ones from years past. I thought they needed a bit of glam so I took some gold trim and hot glued it around them.

It was an easy choice to add a bow in yellow gingham. It’s kind of like the sun shining above the bunny & chick enjoying an Easter celebration.

This wreath is about 14 inches tall and bigger than my other wreaths.

My husband likes it alot. He says it looks like an Easter window display for a store.
My Bff loves the wreath and said, it’s the cutest wreath she’s ever seen.
I personally am pleased as peaches with it. 😉

What do you think? Is my wreath too busy or about right?

Sprouts & Blooms

IMG_8679I’m happy to announce that my seeds of Spring have sprouted and are starting to grow. If they make it until they grow their first true leaves then pretty much they’ll grow sturdy until time to plant them in the garden. For now, I’m tickled-pink to have the sprouts. 🙂IMG_8678

Finally there’s some blooming going on in our yard.
The Bradford pear trees are gorgeous.IMG_8611The miniature grape hyacinths are scattered through out the yard.
The moles and squirrels have moved them all over the place.IMG_8654

IMG_8637My big pink hyacinths are kind of curious. I planted the hyacinths in the middle of my peonies because I knew they’d bloom early then get yucky looking and the growing peony bushes would hide them. They’ve been in the same spot for over 10 years and the hyacinths have never reproduced. I looked online for an answer as to why, but I still can’t figure it out. So, I just enjoy them as they are and be happy with that.IMG_8641
