Candy Cane decor

cannycaneI made a candy cane decoration out of empty paper towel tubes. It was harder than I thought it’d be to make the rounded crook of the cane. It took a few tries, but I figured it out and finally got one to came out fairly adequate.

Now on to my next project… whatever will it be…

I hope your week is filled with success
and Happy craftings!

Handmade Easel

p1080430In order to do my painting for my mix-medium project, I felt I needed an easel. I shopped around online and found the table top ones to be fairly reasonable in price. However, I’m not sure how much painting I’m going to be doing, so I decided to make one.

It took me no time at all, to decide to make an easel out of empty paper towel tubes. I can make more easels anytime I need to.

I realize there’s probably standard regulation on the manufactured easels, but this one works quite well for me.

p1080446My easel is light weight and moves too easily, so I wired it to a cardboard tray that comes with our bottles of water. This worked out better than I planned because I can hold the cardboard steady or move it into better angles to paint the canvas. I can easily change it when it gets too messy.

And there you have it. Another invention from the crafty mind of me. 🙂

Wishing you all much success with your crafty creations.

Recycle a plastic cola bottle – scouring pad bowl & bell jar

IMG_5517-1bottlebottomsI originally was going to make a post about using the scalloped shaped bottoms of plastic bottles as a holder for a scouring pad. I discovered that the scalloped design helped the scouring pad dry better.
It’s not 100% fool proof, occasionally I’ll find a bit of rust in the bowl from steel wool scouring pads.
It’s only a temporary holder for the yarn scrubbies because they’re so thick they won’t dry out before souring.
None-the-less this is something I wanted to share on my blog.
The other day when I was washing out a plastic bottle, it occurred to me that I should also post something to recycle the upper portion of the cut off bottle.
A bell-jar was my first choice because it’s simple and useful, but I needed to think of something handy to use as a base. After thinking on it awhile I decided to use a bowl lid, cardboard and contact paper to make a base.
So, now, this post is about more than a scouring pad bowl, it’s also about recycling a bottle and a couple other things as well.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.spring-017

Fun with Grandson

IMG_5511Our 13 year old Grandson loves playing minecraft. I noticed the blocks on the game are simple designs (and to my creative mind, begged to be made out of plastic canvas lol) I created simple basic patterns and am pleased with how well they look.
I tried to make a Steve, but I wasn’t happy with the way his head turned out, so I didn’t make him a body. Grandson thinks Steve’s head looks okay and told me I should go ahead and make his body too. He said the game has floating heads in it, so even without a body, my Steve-head worked out okay.
It’s fun to be able to make a craft as an extension of a game or hobby that our Grandson enjoys.

IMG_5388One of the stocking-stuffers that our Grandson got at Christmas was an alien egg.  He had it sitting on a shelf  and decided to it was time to try it out. It’s about the size of a regular plastic Easter egg. The directions are, submerge the egg in water and leave it. After a few days it cracks open and an alien hatches out.
Unfortunately, after a few days, the egg had only started slightly cracking by the time it was for our Grandson to go home, so he took it with him.  I wonder how much longer it’ll take to hatch and what it’ll look like.  Grandson said he’ll try to take a photo of the alien for me to see what it looks like when it’s grown.

IMG_5525Grandson hatched out a bunch of sponge fish from capsules.

IMG_5553Grandson had a wonderful time doing an experiment of Ivory soap puffing up like a cloud when it’s put in the microwave. It was so fun to watch.

IMG_5567aGrandson got creative and made himself a toy gun out of cardboard and masking tape. He made it so it has removable attachments and also the the slider thingy moves too. I think it’s quite clever and imaginative.

IMG_5536We gave a big box of 1 ball squash to our Grandson’s Mother & Maternal-Grandmother.
We still have oodles of squash left and more in the garden. I still have one counter full and my craft table is still full.
Grandson told me that I needed to grow something else in the garden besides squash. He thinks I over-done it. lol
I told him it’s not really my fault because I only have 7 plants and it’s been a really good year for squash. lol

It’s always great fun to spend time with my Grandson,
sharing smiles & making happy memories.cloudhug

Here’s wishing you all a creative rest of the week.
