New Year and Christmas Thoughts – Card display

It was a dreary New Year’s day yesterday. The sun tried real hard to shine dimly through the thinner clouds. The temperature was quite nice, it was around 59°F.

For New Year’s dinner we had black eyed peas with ham, boiled cabbage, homemade chicken strips and corn bread followed by a slice of my homemade pumpkin pie.
I began making and baking my pumpkin pie around the midnight hour New Year’s Eve and it was still in the oven when the New Year rang in.
I’m considering ‘making a new year pie during the midnight hour’ a tradition. It would help me stay awake to ring in the new year. I hope I can remember it for next year. We shall see.

I managed to convince Sheli Bean to wear his Santa hat/vest long enough to get some photos of him. Then he delighted in taking the thing off and shaking it like he was trying to kill it. 😀

People don’t send out Christmas cards much anymore. We send out only about a half dozen. How to display the cards folks give us has always been an issue. This year, I had a brain storm and decided to hang a small cork board up to hang the cards on. I didn’t decorate the cork board much, but I’m happy with it. I plan to make this method of card display a part of our Christmas decor from now on.

Now back to today:
Do you still heve your holiday decorations up? We still have our tree up and all the decor. We’ll keep it up for a bit longer or until the mood hits to store it for the year. Fortunately, our livingroom is large enough that our Christmas tree and stuff doesn’t get in the way of normal living.

A Return to Redwork

I haven’t worked on my redwork since 2014. We had a lot going on in our lives back then and I couldn’t give it the attention it requires. So, I folded it up and put it away. Fortunately, I had the good sense to put the redwork fabric, embroidery thread and supplies all together in a bag and there they stayed in the drawer for the past 4 years. Having the supplies altogether sure made it handy for me when I decided to return to it.

I went back through my blog posts and read about my redwork. I’ve changed a couple of my plans for it. I’m not going to dye the fabric and I’ve cut the blocks apart. I plan to add a small print red fabric border on the blocks. As it turns out, planning to use a border and cutting the blocks apart was a good move for me because now I only have a few blocks to go, whereas when I had the fabric in one large piece I needed like 16 more pictures to embroider.

This morning, in an effort to try to arrange the blocks in some sort of order, I laid a sheet on the floor and began to lay out the blocks. Shelibean decided that what the blocks needed was for him to test them for comfort. He found them to be quite comfortable and napped there for about 20 minutes. I didn’t mind, he was cute sleeping peacefully and I was busy going through my coloring pictures and trying to choose some for the last few blocks.I’m glad to have my redwork as an active work-in-progress once again. My Redwork is the perfect example of my starting a project and some times needing to leave it alone until the time is right for me to finish it. It doesn’t really bother me having unfinished projects, matters-a-fact there’s a strange sense of comfort in it for me. Although, from time-to-time I need to finish my unfinished projects before starting new ones. Now that I’ve got my redwork going again, I hope I can keep up my motivation and finish it before the Summer is over, that would make me so happy.

Stormy Wednesday – Shelibean – Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal

We’re in the midst of storms. It storms awhile and then stops awhile then repeats. I appreciate the rain, but the glay-gloomy cloud cover not so much. The thunder clashing, lightning flashing, rain pounding and the electricity flicking off and on just ruins Shelibean’s day. He sports his thunder-shirt and lays under a blanket as close to me as he can get. Bless his heart.

Here’s a photo of Sheli in his thunder-shirt that I took earlier this month. He was acting unsettled that day and I put his t-shirt on him and it calmed him. His thunder shirt is a neck tube with two slits cut for his front legs and a u shaped dip cut out from the bottom side to keep him getting it wet when he tinkles. As you can see, it’s a little big in the neck area and hangs low, but Sheli doesn’t seem to mind and it still serves the purpose. Shelibean’s home-fashioned thunder shirt has been a big help in keeping him more calm when he gets scared or unsettled.Here’s a few photos of a bright and fun couple that visits my herb bed alot. I think they’re cheerful bits of color to share on this gray gloomy day.

Pearl Blanket – 28″ KB Loom + peg extenders

I’ve decided to try to catch up on my projects before starting new ones.
I chose my blanket to finish up first. It’s been on the loom for quite a long time now.
I’m happy to finally have it finshed.
Shelibean tried the blanket out first. He seems to think it’s just right.
Here’s my blanket’s stats:

Testing the WordPress App

Here’s Sheli-bean when he was trying out his new bed. He immediately liked it.
I thought it’d be perfect for trying out this app, in hopes I will like it too.

So far so good.

It’s 10:15pm 12-13-2017- I’m going to try to schedule this post for 12-14-2017 midnight and see if it works.

Wish me luck.

I couldn’t get the App to schedule this post nor could I edit it like I need too. Apparently there’s a step or two that I missed. I’m technologically-impaired, so don’t let my first attempt dissuade you from trying the app.
I went online and logged-in to my normal blog file manager to edit in some more content and finish this post and schedule it.

Anyhow, I suppose the app will be a peach for immediate posting. I realize there’s a learning curve and this first attempt doesn’t really make an educated guide to judge it by. I believe with practice the app might be quite handy. I plan to try it another day sometime.
