May 3rd my husband harvested our first crop. It was a lovley mess of radishes. My husband says they’re really good. I’m not a radish eater, but I like growing them as companion planting to help deter pests.
I re-potted my bell peppers. 59 have survived so far. However, I don’t know how much longer they’re going to last with no sunshine…
We’re in the throws of Blackberry winter. It’s quite cool and storms are fequent visitors.
The dewberries and blackberries are blooming pretty though.
My peonies were blooming happy & beautifullyNow since it’s storming everyday not so much…
We lost 2 small trees during the storms. My husband had to buy a chainsaw to clear them out of the yard. Hopefully the storms are finished with us for awhile and Blackberry winter will be over soon. Perhaps we can soon get back to the business of enjoying sunshine once again.
Wishing you all a pleasant rest of the week!
Those radishes look very healthy, good job on your first crop! What pests do they deter? I’m always interested in companion planting to help my veggies along.
I hope the sun comes out soon for your bell peppers.

Thanks Barb 🙂
Radishes work as a trap crop for flea beetles and icicle radishes deter squash bugs.
Radishes also ward of several other pests like Mexican bean beetles, harlequin bugs, stink bugs, cowpea curculios, cucumber beetles and rust flies.
Here’s a link to a page with a list of several plants and some of the pests each plant deters.

Yummy radishes! Your peonies on the ground reminded me of my cosmos and coreopsis yesterday!

Thanks Patti
Flowers look so sad after a rain that’s bent them down. It’s amazing how quickly they revive when the sun comes out. Hopefully, your cosmos and coreopsis will perk back up soon. 🙂
